That's the Chicago ANA, in August. Only 1800 miles each way, but we're driving the whole fam damily! You should think about it Jody-

i am the one that put the small date back in circulation. my reasoning is this: someone, someday, may FIND that damaged small date and learn to love variety hunting. the first DDO i came across was one i pulled from a bank roll in a 25Lb brick, and to me, that is the coin that i will always associate with a hobby i have come to love. it isnt worth 30 bucks, but it is the coin in my collection i will NEVER sell. for me personally, its the thrill of the hunt that i am after. i just figure that with the damage, it wont be a coin that anyone will miss if it doesnt get rediscovered.

That would be an easy drive for me too. Fun in Chi-town. I think I'll start planning for that one.

I think your intent is noble and honorable. Even if the coin is not "rediscovered" I say go for it. I would only suggest you not spend it at a convenience store because many clerks are on the look out for coins. This is not bad, and if you want to try and make their day, do it. I would suggest, however, spend it at a youth bake sale or some other youth fundraiser where the youths are handling the money. Or, if you have a neighbor kid babysit or do yard work for you, you could mix it in the payment (I have done this with BU state quarters and presidential dollars).

Either way, I am sure you will feel good about spending it and wondering where it ends up. Maybe years down the road, it will surface, you will recognize it, and it will have made a pleasing journey.

A lot of great ideas. Has this just died or is their some consensus?

I think the only consensus is to do what you like.

I will be at the ANA, but tables are expensive. Plus, I do have a regular job. However, I could meet up with people there.

I like the promotion idea, but I'm not sure about the logistics.

Does someone have time to look into table fees for clubs/organizations?

It appears that tables for the Texas show are N/C to clubs (but too late to apply).

When I looked at the Philadelphia show, which appears to be the one Chicago will host for 3 years, I did not find any application for clubs.

I can check with the person on the CONECA board. I believe clubs have no fee tables. In Philly we were relegated in the back in a club section. As to whether LCR can get a table or if the tables are free in Chicago I don't know but I can try and figure it out.

I know it's a long ways away, but I'm planning on heading to the long beach coin show summer 2013. If any other members are going, maybe we can set up a table there. I will look into the price (if any). I think LCR tables at coin shows is a good way to boost quality membership with people that have a deep interest in numismatics.

Yes, and to get back a little to the original start of the thread, put together coins/small sets that we do not value/throw back into circulation and give them to younger/just starting hobbyist to boost interest and focus on the ever lovable Lincoln cent and LCR.

Many great ideas have been put forth, and I thank you all.

Specifically as to LCR attending shows (and I know this is really premature, but please bear with me) and assuming members would be willing to donate coins to handout as promotional items, any thoughts on how to package the promotional coins and/or materials?

If we REALLY wanted to promote at shows, one thing we could consider (which I believe we have considered in the past) is LCR gear, like hats, mugs, etc.

As for promotional items, I would be willing to pass out a few varieties at a booth to get interest in the forum.
