    1909 s v.d.b

Was just wondering what grade this coin would be? And what kind of value would be put on it? After a few comments will post what we gave for it. Thanks.uploadfromtaptalk1348565562277.jpguploadfromtaptalk1348565550475.jpg

I would go VF-20 but probably cleaned once upon a time. That puts it about $750.

Nice coin! MM position is right for one of the 4 dies, (I think 3) and I would grade it VF-25, but it does look like it has been cleaned at some point.

VF-20, possible old cleaning...but it does look like it's genuine.

That's a nice example. I agree with the grading as suggested. It does have the coloration of an old cleaning - but once in a while a digital camera will make it seem so, when it wasn't. Could leave it in your pocket for a few weeks with some other coins or let some sunshine get to it on a window edge for a while.

Yes it is just the way the light hit it when pictures were taken.

Textbook VF-20 and it looks genuine to me. A very nice coin!

Let me start by saying it is a nice coin that I would not kick out of my collection.

I agree, cleaned at some point.

The reverse l think has reasonably nice detail with detracting dings at focal point(s) and some scratches/dings on devices and field.

On the obverse, the field looks above average with noticeable dings/scratches noted on Lincoln's nose and below his ear. Lincoln's hair, eye, and beard above the tie appear to have nice detail, and that leads me to believe what appears to be severe wear at the ear, cheek, and coat can be attributed partly to a weak strike.

Based upon the foregoing, my personal grade on the subject coin would be VF20B (maybe VF25B). Price, I estimate retail at $600.00-$800.00.

You guys are really good! That's awesome to know that such fellow collectors are out there. You all were right on the grade in my opinion also and the price. We bought this coin 2-3 weeks ago gave $800 for it. Felt as if it was top retail but however it is our first 09 S vdb needless to say am very Happy. Thanks again for the comments

GREAT DEAL! That's a VG price. That coin should be in the $900+ area if it's not been cleaned.

I think it's just the lighting, I suspect the reverse picture is more color accurate.

Ahhhh....don't leave it in your pocket....ever.

Put it into an airtite holder for safe keeping!

I would advise bringing it to a dealer locally that sells Lincoln cents if you intend to slab it. I still feel the color is off a tad and a quick in hand inspection from a dealer will tell you if it looks ex-cleaned or not. The last thing you want is a holder that says "genuine" or "cleaned."

A genuine slab is not a bad thing on a key date coin.....yea, it sucks, but it's at least genuine.
