Review of 1970 S Pennies for Small Date

I am a new site user. I recently inherited my Mom's coin collection and am joining it with thousands of horded pennies I had accumulated over many years. I found I have a large group of 1970-S pennies. I sorted them on an expected small date versus large date basis using a magnifying glass (direction of nine, level of 7 bottom, liberty print quality). Still had some doubt on which were actual small dates. I then scanned them into a computer file where I could magnify them and draw some clarification lines. Some of them are clear, but still have many questions on others. Is there a place I can send the file to help verify that they are truly small dates? What would be the cost of such a review?

You can post pictures here for us to see, and we can do our best to verify the coins from you. It is free to ask questions on the forum, so post away and welcome!

Welcome to the forums! I think here is a good place to start. Post the images. There are plenty of people here qualified to tell you if it's a small date or not.

Welcome, and if you can post photos, I am sure we would all like to take a look.

Try posting the photos. Take it easy, as in don't upload too many. The pics have to big enough for us to see. The 9 is the critical area; the 7 can somewhat variable.

          Welcome to the forum!

Thanks. I am not sure the best way to post the file. I tied using the "attachments" option, but the file is too large (bitmap). I will rescan into JPEG hoping that too much detail is not lost.

Having problems downloading. I have tried several options, but the file size is too large. I will work on it tomorrow and hopefully get a file that is the right size but still has the clarity to view the pennies.

If you open a Photobucket.com account, you can upload larger photos there. They have to be jpegs. I would ask they not be more than 1000 pixels across. You can either insert the links to the photos once uploaded, or embed them within the post as I have done with my 1970-S pics above.

On another note, the 70-S small date Lincolns are somewhat scarce and chances are none of your coins are small dates.

                    Here small date

Notice where the curl of the 9 points and how high the 7 looks.

That's a small date from this vantage point and apparently in nice shape too. Congrats.

Oops. I thought that was the subject coin.

Wallendusty's example is a small date.

Roadrunner68: the forum was having some trouble with attachments yesterday, that may have been (or added to) your issues with uploading. Try again when you have a chance.

It appears any file that I download into the computer is too large to download here. So I took a picture (3.8MB) of a smaller group and downloaded it to an e-mail attachment bringing it size down to 139K. This should be downloadable. Hopefully, it will be clear enough to view and make determinations. If not, I will go with JCEVE's suggestion to go to Photobucket.com. Thanks.

Most look like large dates, a few I just cannot make out. Try photobucket.com...
