I have two coins that I want to get certified through PCGS. I have never done this before. I heard that if I become a member that I get a free submission. Is this true? If it is, how much is it? Is it worth it if I'm only going to certify two coins? Or will it give me addition discounts for future submissions?
Thanks Brad and Jason. I looked on their website before I posted and found the services page but I had trouble locating the membership packages. I will look a little further. Thanks for the info.
It is not "free". After paying membership dues and shipping, you'll find it's pretty expensive. As Jason said, it's far better to find a trustworthy dealer and have them submit the coins for you. My guy charges me a flat $25 per coin which is MUCH cheaper than joining PCGS.
Cheap membership of $100 will not get you ANY free gradings. And if you buy a membership at the higher levels that give you free grades, You will still have to pay the shipping and attribution fees above any free grades or roughly $60 ABOVE your free grade. I am a member and come Jan 1st the cost for a single variety attribution including all fees and shipping both ways is now about $78 PER COIN. I have no problem submitting them for you, as long as you cover the cost. In fact, I can reduce your cost by a few bucks as I am going to the FUN show in Jan, and can hand delivery them to PCGS if you like. But I am talking a small reduced fee of shipping which is about $5. Thus a dealer gets a grading fee discount and thats why Brads dealer only charges him $25 But I do not know if that is for a variety attribution coin, or just grading.?
