    1917 penny error or doubled die?

    HELLO! HELLO! I'm new to the site, was told by a gentleman to come here for some help. Here i am! The question i have is: i have a 1917 lincoln wheat penny i found out of one of those old rolls on ebay and i think its a error or doubled die on the 7 in date and b in liberty. does anyone have any input?

    Do you have a pic of it? There is one known doubled die for the date. You can see it here:




    Other than that, we can't tell you too much without a photo.

        Thanks for the pics.

        The 7 appears to have been "squashed"

                      Hi Chief,

                      Welcome to the forum, your gonna love it here.
                      Your coin has seen a lot of circulation over the years and basically the design has been smashed or pushed to the side. Sometimes when this happens the metal can form lines which look like separation from doubling but unfortunately this is not the case. The only known doubled die for 1917, the doubling is to the South on the date. Yours is pushed to the East. I, along with probably everyone here inspect 1917's in hopes of finding a NEW doubled die...wouldn't that be cool!
                      If you haven't already, check out Coppercoins.com and pull up 1917 and you'll see what the doubled die looks like.
