    I regularly use a b&l 20x. It is just what I prefer.

I have a $10 10x that works just fine, I hardly use it. I much prefer my old 4x-8x regular magnifier which lets me see the whole coin. I only use the loupe when I need a real close look at something.

i've invested in an amscope with a camera. hopefully, this will improve picture quality for a truer image (the few pix i've posted here, from my powershot, led several observers to speculate that perhaps the coin had been painted and i missed it!). not only will such confusion find its proper place in future, but searches will be more rewarding when minute details are evident. thanks to all who commented - we'll be able to communicate visually soon.
