Jody, with numeric grading, I agree with eBay. Your typical eBay seller does not know the difference between a MS60 and a MS63 or a MS64 and a MS67. Grading is very subjective, and leaving it to TPG is better for everyone. They do not say you can call a coin VF, XF, AU, or even BU. You just cannot use the numerical system that the TPG uses. As far as varieties go, the numerical system is descriptive not subjective. It is either DDO #1 or it is not. I do not see eBay not allowing the numerical system for identifying purposes. If that were the case you need to do aeay with ISBN numbers and UPC code numbers. Or even allow electronic listings to provide the model number."If Free Speech stops when someone gets offended, it is not really Free Speech."Comment

I disagree on the TPG thing. People have been "slabbing" and selling coins with grades long before the TPGs invented their services. I agree that it's subjective, which is all the more reason not to bestow single authority to a TPG. That in itself is subjective. I had sellers that I trusted and agreed with their grading, and I knew that I could rely on them to sell me a coin that I was more than likely to agree with on concerning the grade. Grading from photos is even more difficult than variety attribution from photos, so Ebay should allow buyers to connect with competent sellers who do a decent job at it, thus avoiding the unnecessary fees of having someone else give their opinion with a label on a piece of plastic.“What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.”Comment

Let us say there is a seller selling some nail polish. This nail polish is described as "sea foam". the photo shows the bottom of the bottle, as well as a streak of nail polish from the bottle. I see it is a perfect match for that "sea foam" dress I bought a year ago. So I buy it. When it arrives, to my disappointment, the color is more teal, than sea foam. Now had the listing were to tell the product number by the company that made it, I would have known it was not the sea foam color I was looking for. Bottomline, like deciding shade of color, coin grading is subjective enough for more people to get it wrong than right. The other bottomline, I really should not be talking about finger nail polish and dresses on an open forum."If Free Speech stops when someone gets offended, it is not really Free Speech."Comment

Anyway, I have had an EBay account for 15 years, but haven't sold there in about 12 years. Too much going on unless you can dedicate the time to it. For me, being a member of a forum like this one would probably get you better sales/trades because normally, the people know what they want, and you are not getting away with a misrepresented sale here!Bob Piazza

Nothing has happened so I called again to follow up..........OMG. As suspected, I had to start all over. Different person, different language, same BS. We didn't remove it! It shows in your sold so it sold! No, no, no, no.......it was removed. I'm lookin at the page with the big blue box that says it was. People could not bid on it because it was removed!
So called supervisor is suppose to call me back later.
This will never get resolved........Rock

I see a lot of coins out there for sale with grades and not slab. Someone don't like you. I never give a grade because I had 26 removed at one time because of that. I have also had variety number coins removed also and had to fight with ebay. They also told me to relist them but had to pay there fee again. A rip off for sure. Are they going to refund you auction fee also? I would fight them about that. I got my fees back after a month of fighting. Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others

Wow... this is concerning me! I hope this never happens to me, I sell a lot of varieties. I also still put a grade sometimes, but just like XF, VF, BU, etc. I do not put a numerical grade like XF-45. And I put that it is just my opinion, and for the bidder to look at the pics and decide for themselves..... no problems yet *knocks on wood*Last edited by flyhi3; 03-05-2013, 07:40 PM.Comment

I think some people have gotten off track or not read the whole thread...Rock didn't have a numeric grade on this auction...he thinks the attribution number may have caused the problem.Comment
