This one is at least worded (mostly) correctly. I have no issue with people selling minor stuff as long as they are not misleading anyone as to what it is. If people want to collect die cracks and chips, then have at it. It's the fraudsters that drive me crazy.

People like tangible things that they can see whether common or not. Heck, as a genre, RPMs are common, but they are not as flashy as chipped, cracked, and/or broken dies. Another thing that we have to understand is that no matter how easy they are to find, a lot of people just want an example without having to take the time to acquire coins, and then spend hours searching them. We're a rare breed here at LCR. We like the search. We spend hours on it, and consequently we find this stuff frequently. Some people would rather just spend a few bucks on an example and do other things with their time than sit behind a loupe looking at Cents.

Trying to dictate what people collect or place value on is a sure way to drive yourself crazy. We can do something about misrepresented items,that's about it.

To say it simple, people buy what they like no matter what you have on there, if they like it and even though it is not a collectable coin, they do not care and just bid to win it because they like it and want it, just the way it is, if the coin is worded correctly then i do not have an issue with it, if you are dumb enough to buy then that is on you. md coins are what really surprise me on how well some of these sell.

That is not all true because the real deal coins of value do not sell and that is what bothers me, why buy the junk when you can buy the real thing.

Oh they're there, you just have to have the patience to find them. Poorly worded auctions are the best. I recently bought two proof sets, 3 Mexican 10% silver pesos, an 1826 and an 1828 half cent with minor problems for $15 because the auction was titled "Nice little coin lot." The "Collections" and "Others" categories are where some of the real treasures are hidden.

I see nothing wrong with the listing. As far as value goes .... It is what the market will bear. The comment that people don't know what is really valuable is only true for each person.

I guess it's pretty much been said, but I still don't understand the threads that attempt to vilify someone for offering what is clearly desired by a certain segment of the market.

Die Chips, Die Cracks, at one time DIE CLASHES, MD, Die Gouges, CUDs are okay, but die cracks are BAD....

Who decides this stuff?

I understand that I've attempted to educate dozens, likely hundreds of people newer to our field- I too have explained how MD is NOT to be confused with the more desirable die doubling. How a die chip is not a mintmark....

But when someone knows what they have, offers that information freely and correctly, and then has many buyers bid competitively and makes a tidy profit- he's a BAD GUY.

Who decided this? Did anyone ever call the police over beanie babies for THOUSANDS of dollars? Or the first guy to pay a premium for an error coin (they used to be considered damaged and junk, discarded by dealers)- was he bad too? Or a visionary? (errors are a little more than garbage now).

At one time we had a member who planned on writing a book about die chips. Yeah, crazy, stupid, I know. He invested hundreds of hours, likely more. He paid a very fair premium for bulk die chips. Stupid, he was told, we all proved that right. In the end, this guy (a decent human), quit what was his life goal. It killed me to see him as disappointed, he finally quit the forum (without a "goodbye cruel world" thread).

I haven't seen Jay since. I don't know where he is or what he's doing. But I do feel guilty that a little more encouragement may well have helped him see through his project.
