    194x S with diamond cutouts

Anyone aware of a reason why someone did this back in the 40's? Just a strange enough thing to have to ask. Thanks for looking.

Yes...Jim Hamilton did that back in 49....said he was hoping a gal named Viv would find it and post it on LCR

I just spit out my banana bread on that one! You are right, maybe this was practice. That is a cool link you sent me to. Can you tell what this one says below LIBERTY?

I will give you a break, you have to look at enough coins every day. Actually I thought it was cool because it is similar to a Lincoln cent, so I zoomed in and it says "Near Sighted Bozo" oh well... I kinda don't get the concept. It's not that funny.

That might have been a personal joke between a couple...many love tokens were unique...kind of like that coin Chris had made at the fun show, or hobo nickels.

Looks familiar. Looks like something similar to what I came across for coins that were cancelled. On my phone right now but when I get back home ill see if I can find the website again. Not sure how accurate the information was but they were identical to your coin.

Your parallelograms are not equilateral, therefore they are not diamonds. Also, there is an upside-down duck below the mint mark.

This damage comes from being in a vice, that's all- the coin was squished in a vice or used as a spacer. No relation to a love token.

Chris nailed it. That's what I was thinking also.

You're thinking of waffling..close, but not it. Chris is probably right about a vice, but PSD is the best answer.

Thanks everyone for solving my mystery today, vice job it is. Will... I saw the upside down duck LOL... cute and Maineman and I looked at some neat love tokens. I did read the article Scott posted about cancelled coins, and the design image is very similar but normally just in the center of the coin. As this coin falls, it's PSD.
