I have started coin roll hunting and found a new, shiny penny that my bank's coin machine rejected when I dumped about $20.00 into it. It appears to be "thicker" and heavier than all the other pennies and the rim is very high.
Return to center, first of all Welcome to the forum!
Thick and heavy coins can come from different sources such as rolled thick blanks or foreign planchets. Do you have a picture available? My first thought was a thick planchet due to the very high rim but can't say for sure.
Most of the times these are from having received more than one strike. If it shows signs of a double strike, it has some value. If not, it's a normal coin.
