I am pretty new to the penny world but had read your post and then saw this penny on craigslist what do you think, I couldn't tell from the obverse but the reverse is a pretty good pic.

I agree. One way I can tell is the "N" in UNITED on the reverse is not filled. Here's a picture of what it should look like. http://lincolncentresource.net/forum...9&d=1390692618

As noted, it's not right. Some sort of recolored counterfeit. I hope you didn't pay too much.
As a side note, I feel we have now seen a lot of coins come from Craigslist that were fakes...

There is no known class 6 DDR on any genuine 1909S VDB cent, however this one has a strong class 6 DDR in UNUM and the top half of the right wheat stalk. That would be the first giveaway.

The depth of the design is wrong, and the rims are wrong - they are too flat and too crisp around the motto on the obverse. The details on the bust are wrong. The reverse design is flatter than that of a genuine coin. The details in the wheat stalks are wrong.

Absolutely no question - counterfeit, and not a very good one. It's likely a Chinese die struck counterfeit.

I think it's a $3 fake that they gave some extra fake toning. I think that same fake was sold in qty on ebay in the past.

It appears to be one of those Chinese fakes, I've seen them posted on the web before. It's been AT'd to try and cover the deception.
