Is this 1970-S 1 cent piece a small or large date?
Is this 1970-S 1 cent piece a small or large date?
I pulled this 1970-S penny out of a roll tonight at work. It appears to be a small date to me, because the 1 is taller than the 9 and because the 7 is about as tall as the 0. I don't know much about variations, so I figured I'd ask the experts. Is it a small date or a large date? If it is a large date, then no harm, no foul as I gave only 1 cent for it. Thanks in advance.
The easiest way, for me anyway, is to look at the inside curl of the nine and if it points to the S then its large date. If it points to the 7 then its the small date. This one points to the S, so definitely a large date.
