I do not collect any zinc pennies whatsoever. Well, I take that back because I do have two UNC 2014-D cents in my collection because one day I realized that I didn't have any shield cents in my collection and I do kind of like the shield design, but those are the only two. If they made copper shield cents for collectors I would have bought one of those instead. The only non-wheat Lincoln cents I collect are 1959 and 1960 pennies because I've always collected them and I've started collecting the 1968-1974-S pennies because I see them as oddities. I will also stick back AU and BU 1961-circa 1970 copper cents when I find them. When going through a roll of pennies, I don't even check the dates for the zincolns because I'm simply not interested in them. It's not the fact that they're zinc, it's just the fact that I'm not interested in any post-1974 pennies at all. The fact that zinc pennies don't age well at all and tend to look dirty and nasty doesn't help in the matter. I'm not even interested in the set of 4 pennies that showed Lincoln at various stages in his life (2009?) I'm sure I'm missing out on certain variations and possible mint errors but I have no interest in those either. Am I the only one?
Am I the only person here who does not collect any zinc pennies?

Agreed... I know the OP dose not like the Zinc Lincolns... but if he checks.. 1982,1983,1984,1988,1992,1994,1995,1996,1998,1999, 2000,2001,2004,2006, etc and finds a $20.00 to $5,000.00 cent..... then maybe he could go buy a better copper cent...
Think about it....Last edited by onecent1909; 06-29-2014, 08:35 PM.Member: Florida State representative for the ANA, Florida state representative for CONECA, F.U.N. and the Ocala Coin ClubComment

For long-term investment, we don't keep any zinc cents, it's a deliberate choice. We decided to retain a full BU bag of every date memorial copper cent, but decided against doing the same with zinc cents. This is both because of their cost (some rolls run more than $20 each) and their unstable nature.Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

I don't collect Zinc Cents, but not because I am a zincophobe/copperphile. I don't collect them because they are not Wheats, and I only collect Wheats.Builder of Custom Coin Photography Setups. PM me with your needs or visit http://macrocoins.comComment

When searching cents, if it's zinc with a D mintmark I don't spend time looking at it. The only thing I check for is 92-D CAM. The rest go right back to the spend pile. I would look closer if some nice D mint varieties get discovered but until then I think the time is better used by looking at anything else. I could miss a D mint discovery coin but the odds of that are slim

I don't see a reason to hoard zinc cents at the moment. But why wouldn't you want to have a 1982 DDR, 1983 DDR, 1984 DDO, 1988 RDV-006, 1992 CAM, 1995-D DDO, or 1999 WAM just to name a few? Are you gonna throw them back or spend them just because they are zincs?Comment

When circulated, absolutely I'm going to spend them because they're zincs! And nothing of such significance would slip through our fingers. We buy zinc rolls and after picking them, sell them asap!Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

If I knew I had one of those, I'd keep it for sure, I'm just not going to look through all the dirty zinc pennies I find just for the low chance I might find a variation. I'm more of a wheat guy.Comment

What about 1988D and 1995D????Life is not about greatness but on the impact of good onto others. It is a matter of how much one shines. Explains why I like shiny coins.Comment
