Welcome to the forum! I assume you are talking about a loupe and not a microscope? Many of us utilize both. I have actually heard people complain about the led on certain loupes because it creates too much glare on coins. As with any other products, they range from cheapie to very expensive and as with all things, you get what you pay for. I have a loupe for carrying around, but use a cheapie microscope with a built-in camera feature to search at home. It isn't great, but it serves its purpose for poor folks like I. When I come home, my wife turns me upside-down and shakes the nickels out my pockets. (As long as I can keep the cents!)
All opinions expressed are not necessarily shared by willbrooks or his affiliates. Taking them may result in serious side effects. Results may vary. Offer not valid in New Jersey.
My eyes aren't that great either and I like to make things as easy as possible. For searching at home I purchased a amscope SW-2T13x stereo microscope. I usually look through the 10X until something catches my eyes then the 30X will really let you see it. I absolutely love this scope. They run about $250 right now but if you are looking at a lot of coins I would recommend it http://www.amscope.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=SW-2T13X
Your question has many options. I use a 7.5 X to 35 X variable zoom binocular scope that I find suites my needs very well. But then again, I do a lot of photography work and shoot most of my in close shots through that microscope.
Myself, I have a few different of loupes ranging from 3x to 14x and just stepped up and bought a Stereo Micro scope that arrived yesterday from Am Scope. I really love it! (Am-Scope SM-1TX). If you get a chance to check one out I would recommend it.
