Why no 1943 steel cents in search?

As long as I've searched Brinks boxes from my bank. Never found even one(1) steel cent. What gives?

    Thanks..................Ken.

they tend to stand out so they do not get "mixed in" with other cents.. and people keep them as they are different and special

Also most the of the coin counter have a magnet installed to cull out World Coins. These magnets also cull out the 1943 steel cents.
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

They're so easy to notice as "different" so even the non collectors have put them aside.
If you buy wheat bags it's hit or miss, some have them but many bags have none because they were pulled since circ rolls of steel cents get a premium above regular circ wheat rolls.

They're probably the only US coin you can gather with a magnet. They rust so many that are found with metal detectors are only a rusty disc.

I think that most get stuck to the magnets on the coin counters. I've only found 4 or 5 in all of my roll searching. I've probably pulled double that amount from the magnets of my local CU's coin counter.

I have 2 for the year. 3 Indians and 2 Proof's . Lots of wheats.
Only thing I could think of the baby generation is checking out our kids dump drawers out cash in what ever change and I don't know.
I never have in 35 years found a Indian head cent. Until now.

How do you get to the magnets on the counters?
Are these on coinstar type machines?
Is it something that can be reached by customers or something inside that you can only get to when someone services the machine?

The machines I use are at the bank. When you lift the tray to dump the coins the magnets are at the top of the chute. Easy pickings!

Yes, they are separated by coin counters and put in the return chute. I always check the chute before I load my change and found one a few weeks ago that was sorted out on a previous visit.

People take them out of circ and hoard them under belief they are worth big money because they are old and different. Over my many years of collecting I've had quite a few people (non-collectors) tell me they have a steel cent in a jar or something. Then they ask what it's worth.....LOLOLOL.

Some of them see news stories about copper 1943 cents and get confused and think their steel cent is a million dollar coin.
They think: "if the normal copper one is worth a million then this neat silver one should be worth a lot more" LOL

I've pulled one from circulation this year. If they're in circulation then they were in someone's collection until recently; they stand up to circulation even more poorly than the Zincolns do.
