    1970 S sm date

Here is some info for those who have been having a difficult time telling the difference in the large date and small date in the 1970 s penny. I was told by a gentleman who works at the coin store I go into from time to time that the best way to tell the difference in the large date and small is to look at the 0 in the date. The small dates look as if it is pointing our away from the 7. The large dates all look to be either pointing straight up or in toward the 7. Tell me if anyone else has found this to be true or not. I would like to know. The coins I have seen in person and pictures seem to follow this pattern.

    lcaryy65,
Look at this page. It may help with your question. There does seem to be a bit of a tilt in the one pictured here but I wouldn't know if this is a constant.
