    N. F. String & Son Harrisburg, PA Rolls

Yesterday my bank gave me a box of cents with N. F. String & Son rolls. The box has small holes punched in the top where you can see the ends of the rolls through. OMG these are the best looking Lincoln cents! I have only been through about 10 rolls and they all are very good condition and I have only seen a few Shield cents (one was a 2015 Shield so this is not an old box)

I am going to call the bank today and ask them to please put these boxes aside for me if they have any more of them. All I have been getting is Loomis rolls and the coins are not in very good shape.

Do you think it is odd that these Harrisburg, PA rolls made it to Alabama? If so, you Northerners are lucky!

Not odd at all...every year there are thousands of old folks that go south for the winter....Abe is no exception.

Those are simply wrappers the rolling companies use to roll there coins. They supply the wrappers.

That's just blind luck Viv.....as enamel mentioned....they just make the wrappers.....and wrapping companies don't sort cents by condition (unless they're gonna sell them for a profit)....I also think the same about customer wrapped rolls simply because those same customers put them in counting machines too. My teller told me she has seen people empty coin collections of loved ones into the counters ( I did tell her to call me next time...lol)

I don't know why it is, but I definitely have better luck with string and sons rolls. I used to be a lot more proactive in scrounging coins from many banks. A big mix of boxes and $50 plastic bags. I definitely did better on the boxed coins which are predominantly string and sons rolls for numbers of wheats and varieties. However, the pain of having to unwrap everything and the tremendous waste stream generated far outweighed the benefits of just picking up bags. I still search a few boxes here and there. They average about 5% higher in copper and are better for varieties on average but also run the risk of solid date "dirty rolls" which I get far too often. Given that I often search $250 a month in cents, I have settled on just picking of the bags. If I did a smaller volume, I would switch to boxes for sure. Plus they sure are nice for storing rolls of saved
              copper.

You could always recycle the paper rolls for fire kindling

                    It's very random.

I've had what looked like solid modern bricks that had a lone wheat cent in a roll.
Those operations must dump random bins into the mix, anything can be in them or nothing at all.
To them a cent is a cent, red, brown, wheat, whatever gets through their machines gets in the rolls.

I've also had bricks that were solid date all unc but a mix of P and D in the same brick but those are not common.

Thank you very much guys! Go ahead and laugh... this post shows how truly gullible I am (and not very smart). I really thought these Lincoln cents came all the way from Pennsylvania

Thank you for this info! I wondered how people get bags of coins, these little banks in Alabama may not have them like that but I will ask. It would be nice to not have to unroll.... and unroll...

Ok, you got me on that one Roger I checked the NF String & Son website and they actually make a roll "cracker" that automatically cracks open rolls for businesses that use a ton of coins. Hate to see what that thing does to our Lincolns!
