I know this is not a favorite subject in the past for some, but I do need to ask a few questions. I am very familiar with the 4 die types, I own most (not the strong reverse), and have read all of the past threads. This coin is a die 3 with the rotated reverse. Is this a weak D or a no D? How do TPG's determine a no D? Do they go by a certain magnification? What would be the best TPG to send it to? Seems like PCGS is very picky on no D's. Does anyone have any recent TPG experience? Thanks for taking a look.

My understanding on the No D vs Weak D is whether or not the TPGs can see the D using a 16x loop. That being said I've personally submitted a Type 1 & Type 3, which I thought for sure were No D, Weak Reverse only got get Weak D on my initial submission. A month later I cracked them out, and sent them in again I got both in a No D, Weak Reverse. I hate to say it, but I don't think the determination is 100% cut and dry. Hope this helps! -

This one might be a coin flip on whether it's worth submitting. Based on the pictures presented, I think you have a reasonable chance at getting this into a G6 or VG8 No D, Weak Reverse holder. If you could take some pictures at a low angle it might be more definitive. That being said, the No D, Weak Reverse in my opinion are over valued on the PCGS Price guide at this grade level. They work very similarly to the 3 1/2 legged buffaloes. In low grades it may be the right die, but without distinguishable features it's not all that exciting. These are much more interesting pieces above XF, and I believe many collectors seeking these recognize that.
Just my 2 cents, gl either way!Comment
