Penny dilema in the US...your thoughts please?

    Hi guys,

I am in Texas for a vacation. So of course I hit up the banks looking for whatever rolls I can get my hands on.

2 rolls at one, 2 rolls at another, zero at another. I am finding (like I use to whenever I went to NY or PA), if I am not a customer, then I get no service. Until today! I went to the bank across from my hotel and they were willing to let me buy a box. I was ecstatic.

I go back to my hotel room and contemplated...do I open it now or wait until I am home?

I opened it. And my glee fell to the floor and left me in wonder.....

The whole box is 2015 D's. Except for one roll that shows a beaten up memorial on the end.

What do I do? I have never searched rolls of new pennies. I was hoping for a mixture of years (because I am starting over again). I am not sure if I really want to pay for an extra piece of luggage for this?

If you were in my shoes, what would you do????

    Thanks!

    Lara

If you don't like it take it to a 10% loss coin counter and dump it.

What is that? And where would I find such a thing?

PCGS doesn't show any graded at more than MS-67, I'd search it for a 68 or 69. Yeah, it's not fun but it could be a $500+ payout if you find and get one in a PCGS slab.

try this.....if you have a purse put $5 in new cents, go to a local supermarket/food store ask if they had any rolls of cents.
if they do tell them you will take $5. when they put them down...
exchange and tell them you want old cents to search all of these that you got at a bank are new.
          .
          .
coin counters are located in supermarket in the front. you put your coins in... it counts and sorts them... and prints a ticket you take to the front counter . it subtracts a percentage (10% I think) and you get the remaining balance.

Oh Brad! I would never have thought of that! Lol. I don't think I would know a 67, 68, 69 or 70 even looks like! I have a slabbed 69 at home I bought from the Edmonton Coin show in November, I keep looking at it, trying my darndest to figure how the heck PCGS ever gave it such a grade! I think it is 65 at its best, personally!

Onecent (forgive me, I forget your name), thank you! I will try that over the course of the next few days. (Exchange rolls that is).

Anyone else who reads this post....don't be afraid to chime in! Any idea is worth putting out there ;)

Of course, you can also cash the money out as a gift card for somewhere you shop. Do that and they don't charge the 10%.

Well, if they were Just 2015 Phillys, you could look for the new DDO. But since they are not - I would hit the coin star machine to unload and move on - to another bank .

Sounds like fun... Searching for pennies is like fishing... Could pull up an 18 pound black bass or a major DDO/DDR

Lara, Cash them in at the gas station, market, wherever you go. Un opened rolls should be taken without a problem. Pay for whatever you can with them until you leave.

There used to be a guy on here that would ship copper/zinc or a mixture of the two right to your doorstep. I believe it was coincollectingenterprises or something of the sort. There was a mark up of course, but if you are desperate this may be an option for a one time bulk purchase.
Like others have said, Id dump the 2015s as they are from Denver and it would be a hassle to bring them back with yiu.
                          Good luck

I have decided that I am going to the post office today to see what it will cost to ship to my home. If it is too expensive, then I will do as suggested...exchange them randomly and little by little.

I have opened up 2 rolls, one proves to be all 2015 D's (except for on memorial) and the other roll was predominantly 2015 D's. Still kinda sitting on the fence with this one.

Who knows....I figure this one out.

                            Have yourselves a wonderful day!

Does not sound like you have a solid brick of 2015Ds. You should examine at least 6 rolls out of a brick before deciding what to do.
