    Anybody here stack copper?

I always throw my pre-1982 cents into ziplock bags and into an old trunk that I call the "copper bin." The metal content exceeds the face value of the coin, and so I've found it a fun way to kind of "save" for the future while looking for varieties. A piggy bank for adults. Eventually, the law will be changed and one will be able to melt these like pre-1964 silver. Ok, nobody's going to get rich doing this, but at face value, why not? I've probably got several hundred pounds now of 95% copper cents.
I know the term is generally used for precious metals like silver and gold, but anybody else here "stack" copper?

I do exactly the same thing. While searching for varieties, it doesn't take any extra time to throw the copper-alloys into a separate bin.

I did for a while. I had $500-600 (face) stacked in a closet for a while until I decided that it just did not make any economic sense. Though the ore value is greater than face, by the time it is shipped and melted, there is no premium left. So, I don't think anyone would buy it at a meaningful premium even today, were it legal to melt. That being said, our friends at coincollecting enterprises would likely disagree.

I agree with Dennis! There are limited supplies of copper on this planet and many major mines are already on the decline. Sure, we may mine the asteroids someday soon, but until then I will save every copper cent I come across. It is a nice, albeit cumbersome way to save some hard cash! I still think it will be worth the effort someday.

When I saw the thread title, this immediately came to mind.

I saved it up until last November....then I realized that I needed the space more than anything so I sent them to Dan at Coincollectingenterprises for FV & shipping..never thought anybody here was saving them or I would had said something.
