    1982-D Small-Date copper Lincoln Cent

Was there only one 1982-D SDC, or hundreds of 1982-D SDC minted?

This is an off metal strike. Periodically there would be copper platches left or stuck in the system somewhere, That's why these are pretty rare to come by as well as 83 and 84 copper strikes. A similar incident happened with the 43 and 44 off metal strikes.

It may or may not be an off metal strike. The previously known "Small Date" coins in brass are not considered off metal. The mint just used up the brass planchets when they changed thier dies. It could be the case that there were also a small number of brass planchets left over when the new dies were introduced in Denver, in which case they are regular production cents. It could be argued that any brass planchet that found it's way into an 82 minted small date cent, of any mint are correct, albeit rare.

I doubt that big a percentage has been weighed so with one found there are probably more but still very rare.
Another fun thing to look for

Supposedly there were no 1982D small date solids minted (As far as I know) so it is rare in any case... Could be as rare as the 43 coppers... I always check any small date Ds for weight - unless of course there is zinc showing thru
