    need info

has anyone heard or read anything about 1983 Lincoln pennies, I was told to weigh all 1983 pennies because some pure copper placets got through in 1983, so some of the 83 are not copper coated zinc.

Yes there are some coppers and they bring a nice premium (in the thousands). No need to weigh ones that have plating bubbles or show zinc, most times on the urns on the reverse.

One for sale on eBay right now, keep in mind that this anomaly isn't unique to 1983...I remember a 1989-D as well http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-D-Copper-Penny-NGC-AU-58-BN-Ultra-Rare-Transitional-Error-Only-2-Exist-/17195535049

You are looking for 3.11 grams vs. 2.5 grams. I picked up a very nice analog scale in grams at goodwill, much like a small doctor scale with sliding weights, for 7.00. I set it for 2.5 grams and when I see an 82,83,84 that is nicely plated(no orange peel) I throw it on there to see if it balances or is heavy. No luck yet though

Gatito showed me a link on another thread of a 89D copper and 90D copper, both 3.1 g, the 90D was on ebay for $25K (meant to go back and see if it sold yet)
I'll be shocked if they sell for anything near that price.

I'm not saying it won't go for thousands but 25K is really high.
I'd gladly trade one if I had it for a stack of 20 double eagles because selling is much easier if not instant. Selling a rare error is a different thing altogether even if it's really scarce.

OK guys....we got way off track here...especially for a new member that's probably scratching his head. I'm going to delete the off topic posts so don't take it personally
