Hello Slayer! You are the first person on the forum to get a full brick of 2017P's as far as I know! That is awesome!!! I say search them and find the first Doubled Die for the year!!!

Actually I've gotten them. My area was covered up with them since late Jan. What you do with them is entirety up to you. I personally would sell them on the bay.

Yes, since you have them......what the heck, you might as well search thru them. As you're looking for that first Doubled Die, watch for what you think are real clean (no bag marks, no carbon stain marks, clean fields) mint state coins. But them aside and save them. JMHO

enamel... did you stop searching Shield cents? That's bizarre that so many have shown up in Kannapolis!

Yes, for about 3 months that was it! I searched some boxes hoping for varieties, but nothing to find. I was really hopeful for this year having some major doubling. I ended up either searching customer rolls or having the tellers check the boxes.

Well enamel, that is disheartening to know! If anyone can find a doubled die, you can! Maybe this year the mint workers were so hyped about the "P" recognition they were paying more attention to their jobs?

Yay! I hope you find a doubled die or more, those spots and bag marks won't even be a thing! When I search Shield cents the pick up points I look at are... Date, Liberty (especially the RTY) the LB and JFM. You probably already know this, just didn't know how long you've been a collector (sorry I didn't look to see) Where are you from?

Hi Sunni, are you asking me? Just not sure if you were directing the post to me or to Slayer?

Edit: I'm sorry Sunni, I just got your PM. For a minute there I was confused. Thank you so much, that is very sweet of you! Yes ma'am it's the same address. You are very welcome, glad the DDO got to you and happy that you like it!!

If you are in this for the long haul, I would set aside at least one roll.

Why? Well, have you noticed how fast these discolor? I don't know why but it takes very little to turn these from full red to rb in short order. I was looking through some change the other day and saw full brown shield cents.

3I suspect that these coins will deteriorate much faster than other zinc lincolns. I also suspect that despite the large mintanges that 30 to 40 years from now OBW rolls will bring a premium and more so after that.

My Grandfather began collecting in 27. When he returned to the States ( he ws in the Navy) he would set aside, at least, one roll of Cents for each year from 29. As he lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, I now have a collection of original rolls from 1929-S to 1955-S. At the time they were just fifty cents a piece, now they are a treasure. Ironically, I will never open those rolls.

However; think about your grandchildren needing that full red bu 2017P and knowing that they open that roll from Gramps/Grandma. Lol, if that is your thing!

This is an excellent point! Thank you for sharing your story about your grandfather and how you have taken his collection into the next generation... for the next generation! You are correct... you have a treasure there indeed!
