    1983 zinc cent weight max.

    hi, just was wondering if anyone knows what the max. weight a 1983 zinc cent might weigh in grams. i have a few that weighted 2.9

    That is possible, check the calibration of the scale to make sure that is reading correctly.
    Even a fool can look wise if he keeps his mouth closed.

      i get 2.9 to 2.8 prob a heavy zinc cent.

        If your scale is correct that seems high. My guess is that your scale is reading slightly high.
        A few things you can try to verify what's up.

        First weigh some other normal zinc cents to see what your scale says.

        Second, look at those cents, most zincs you can tell by the bumpy surface.

        Third, if you have good hearing you can flip cents (set on your thumb and launch them up spinning) in the air so they spin. Practice on some normal copper and zinc cents. If you can get them spinning as they fly.... you'll see that all normal copper cents make a zing/ringing noise as the spin but zinc cents do not ever make that noise. If you can get them spinning and can hear the high pitch sound it's very accurate because you can get all coppers to make noise and no zincs will do it. Try it out

                Normal weight for plated zincs is 2.5 grams... The solids are 3.11!!!
