    Crack looks fresh and not raised. File name for 1982 D my error.

    Nope not a Die Crack. PSD "Post Strike Damage", a scratch, note the pressure ridge on each side of the grove.
    Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

      azsawdust, For future reference, take pictures of the entire coin front and back first. Take your pictures directly over the coins, not at an angle. Them zoom in on the problem area.

        There are some nice examples of die cracks in the Glossary! A die crack will be raised, some more than others depending on the severity of the crack!

          You made it easy with what you described. Good observation.
          A crack in a die would let the metal on the coin fill up into the crack in the die so it will be raised on the coin.
          A low area on the coin is from a scratch or being struck through something but it's very unlikely that a struck through would end right at the raised details and you can see a raised area along it so that means it must be a scratch on the coin.
