The new design for the shield cents (starting in 2010) does not show the fine detail in the beard and other devices like the memorials. This is definitely the design though. Those coins struck with worn dies show almost no detail at all in these areas. Too bad actually. I love strikes where the art of engraving the design shows through in nice detail. I am afraid the shield cents will not offer that though.

I also enjoyed the artful details of the late LMC's. They have an attractiveness when sharply struck. The Shields design blandness recalls the mushy lack of care the late 70's had.
Even a fool can look wise if he keeps his mouth closed.
I always thought it was do to hair loss from old age I too like the coins with the detail from the artist showing... Makes for a much more interesting coin!!!
