    1943 Steel Cent

Just found my second 43 Steelie in a bank roll. It's ugly but not as ugly as the first one I found. Has anybody ever found one searching rolls or bags that was not so corroded?

    Congrats Viv.
Definitely have not found any in bank rolls. I did win a local auction recently that had about 14 rolls in a lot of about 160 mixed rolls. I haven't checked them all but I think they were all replated.

I have found a total of two steel pennies in bank rolls. The coin counting machines reject steel cents so that's probably why they do not show up much in rolls.

Congrats Viv!! I have not found any in the wild yet but used to mess with them on eBay some, buying and selling.

Thanks guys! It's pretty shocking to find these in a roll but they are so darn ugly! But, because of what it is I don't want to toss it. think a shopping trip on ebay is on order to find one that is hopefully not re-plated!

I've found 3-4 of them over the years but not looking for die varieties. I found them while running Lincoln Cents through my Ryedale Machine separating copper and zinc. I had a magnet under the ejection port to catch them if any ever came through. I was going through tons of Lincolns then. Back before I started this hobby. I was selling the boxes of all copper cents at a premium. Made a little pocket money doing that for awhile.

Now that is clever Shannon! Then you became a Lincoln cent hunter! Were the ones you found all corroded too? Now I can see why people re-plate them, but I'd rather have an ugly than a re-plated one. It's a neat reminder of our history!

Cool find... I don't remember finding any in rolls but I do remember finding a few in a bag of coins... It may be an ugly coin but it is the ugly that only a Lincoln Hunter could love

Thank you Jim! I remember when I first started searching Lincoln's several people were finding steel cents and I thought it was so cool but never thought I would find one, now I've found two! I does feel like an accomplishment

Now all you need is to find a 43D and 43P copper in the same roll
