Magnification and Lighting... an optical illusion

Found this last night and after looking at it a few times and scratching my head... I decided I had either looked at enough Lincolns for the day, or I needed some eggnog!

Today, with natural light, no LED's... I looked at it again and still saw the same thing.

Then I took the full coin photo and zoomed in on it and realized, this is the most dramatic optical illusion caused by magnification and improper lighting I have ever seen.

Hehe! Add some tequila to your search technique. I saw Abe doing a handstand one night!

OMG Tracy, too funny! Yeah, you know normally when something doesn't look right you can turn it different ways. Didn't work for this Lincoln, had to zoom out! Now if I had been having a toddy I would have seen more, I'm sure

Is this what you are referring to Viv?

What do we have going on here? Is this three legs, one leg and two sides of the chair or just die deterioration?

Yes, last night I was trying to remember the year of your coin so I could look at it again. How weird, both 1973's... your full coin reverse still looks like 3 legs and mine looks normal.

At one point while I was rotating the coin, it looked like Abe was skiing. The center part morphed into two legs close together with his body at a slant and the two outside things looked like ski poles LOL

Anyone of us who search on eBay know that this happens all the time with good and even the best photos. And no, drinking does not help. Trust me on that as I have lost a lot of money on “what I thought” I saw.

Heh, heh. Some of my best and worst buys on the bay have been under the influence.

Those are some nice, up-close shots. Was that with your scope?

Thank you TPring! Yes, just with natural daylight. I took that grey plastic thing off the pole to be able to raise the scope up higher to get a full coin shot easier.
