    Coin Roll Hunting Part 5

So last weekend my son wanted to goto Ollies to see if he could score some discontinued Transformers. I noticed there was a big box branch so I stopped in. As soon as I walk in a guy walks up to a teller and asks for 2 boxes of pennies, a box of nickels, and half a box of dimes. Im not sure what to think. Part of me says to keep going back to the bank because all the boxes of coins will be new from the armored car company. The other part of me says stay away because he may dump them back at the same branch.

I also grabbed some a handful of half dollars. One of them had a weird ring. Silver??? nope a counterfeit coin. Hollow on the inside. A small dent on the face that looked like a incisor bite mark. Handed it back to the teller and let him know it is counterfeit.

So for some reason I decided to goto variety vista to take a look at the penny master list. I noticed that I was missing some dates from my spread sheet. Somehow I had at least 10 dates missing from my master spread sheet. So this boxes stats will be a bit skewed from the previous four.

    Total Cu 564
    Cu % 22.6
    Cu to date sort 143
    Cu date sort % 5.7
    Cu error sort 301
    Cu error sort % 12
    Cu bullion 105
    Cu bullion % 4.2
    Wheats 15
    Wheat % 0.6
    Keepers 9
    Keeper % 0.4
    Non Cu Error dates 498
Non Cu Error Date % 19.9
    Foreigns 5
    Foreigns % 0.2

Nice copper count! That's crazy you ran accross a counterfeit coin at the bank but I guess the coin sorters just go by size. You are getting together a huge number to search.

Yeah I am not sure if I am going to search them. It takes sooo much time to search coins. I tend to migrate to the MS pennies myself.

That is a nice percentage of Cu for an entire brick.

It's not a counterfeit. It's made for a magic trick, I have found many through the years.

That's cool... I wonder if the other guy was a coin searcher or there for a business??? It may not have been counterfeit but I thought the coin sorter would have caught it as altered... Most sorters these days have sensors that detect metal content, weight and several other perimeters!!!

That's too bad... but I understand the time thing! At least when you have more time and get ready to find some nice varieties you will have some nice ones set aside to look at!
