1984 P Die Scratches or Abrasion + Crack

There are linear plating issues on this coin; but besides that, there are die scratches all over the coin which I think were caused by abrasion with a coarse steel brush in a polishing machine. Can they be considered die scratches or just an abraded die?. There is also what I think is a die crack from the rim to the 8 in the date.
Can you comment on this?

You are correct Adrian, it's a heavily abraded die and where the die scratches are located is typically where die clashes are seen so the mint worker obviously was working real hard to remove the die clash. Die abrasion can also be caused from other things besides die clashes, maybe the die got bumped or maybe it was just dirty and needed cleaning. But die abrasion and die scratches are the same thing, they are scratches on the die. Sometimes the scratches are light, probably that is just from cleaning the die, sometimes there are just a few die scratches, probably from cleaning the die. Not sure if that is a die crack from the lower 8 to the rim or if it's a heavy die scratch. From the pic it looks more like a heavy die scratch (rounded and smooth) If it's a die crack there will be some exposed metal oozing up from the crack, I'm not seeing that.

Thanks Viv!! There is zinc exposed where it touches the rim...?? The plating there appears to be removed.
Added. That feature looks thicker and not completely linear like the other scratches, so it looked like a crack to me.??

I looked at your photo of the date again, it could just be lighting playing tricks but that scratch from the 8 to the rim looks incuse to me (compared to the other scratches in that area) If it is incuse I would think that is PSD and the hit was what caused the exposed zinc on the rim. Let's see what the guys think!

Sometimes it's hard for me to differentiate between incuse and raised and the angled light and you help a lot... Awesome people.

You know your stuff but are a little hesitant at saying it... I often have the same problem with the incuse/in relief items... Got to do the old look away and come back thing
