Viv, on your question "Next is... why do you want to clean this particular one? Is it worth the time and trouble?"

No, it was just a wheat penny I was just looking at, and it had all the gunk in between the letters, ...and I was reading this post, so there came the question, how does one deal with that. So, no, nothing in particular about THAT coin itself, like I needed to spend time on it. Just on the HOW of it, the how of getting on a coins small letters gunk out.

I practically had to do the site by myself, mostly, but it wasn't completely done or to standards expected. I am so down. But, I have to get my spirits up.

On your advice, I totally agree--anything external that could affect that valuable coin, stray away from and wait. Protect it in the meantime. Did you eventually slab the CLAM?

Thank you for your advice, Viv. Always.
Nice to hear from you Camelia and you're welcome! It sounds like you have had your hands full with your job assignment! Hang in there and you will get it done - and ace it!

Roller has a great find that is an example of what we've been talking about. Here is Coppercoins' example of the 1917P-1DO-001. This one definitely needs to be in a pro's hand to be restored (not cleaned). PCGS Restoration Service is an option, or have it restored by a Pro who knows what they are doing. Yes, the CLAM is in my safe, I've been trying to find a couple more worth slabbing to send along with it. Still searching!
