OK retired, I've added 75,000 more Lincolns to your 401K pile.
Have you ever seen one million pennies?

Is that why I can't find any wheats at all?
NFO:
First 4 boxes I ever got, found some nice pennies, wheats...and the romance went away soon after. 6 other boxes later, nothing. Absolutely, and really, whole boxes of damaged, ink-like-blue-black-stains on everything, verdigris to no avail that even a bird in a bird-bath would laugh at, and lo and behold --found a 1945 Heyaah wheat penny that was so damaged I could barely read the date.
So, whoever is buying everything, and putting back in circulation pennies so badly beaten and ugly (practically right down disgusting), ...there it is. I have put up with 6 whole boxes of them.
It is actually dis-heartening.
Of all things, I found in 2 boxes, from different banks, rolls that were checkmarked, and a phone number written on it. Over 20 rolls, in different boxes, with the same phone number. What and why would someone write their phone number on it? I actually did a reverse lookup and they live in the area.
So I drove 40 miles out to turn these ugly pennies in, and get other ones. No luck. Not as bad, but nothing new.
did Middle Earth swallow all the wheatties?Comment

Banks used to require the phone #, in case the rolls came up short they knew who turned in what and helped keep people honest!
I hope Golum isn't collecting my precious Lincoln's?............did Middle Earth swallow all the wheatties?Comment

Sorry, Petes, just a thought--- the bank is not going to call anyone, that I can think of. I find dimes and plastic cents and all sorts of things in rolls. And, if ya think about it, I can use that wrapper (with the phone number) and roll up, hmmm, 45cents (I wouldn't do that, but for educational purposes here)... If the bank is going to call anybody, is not going to be me. Right? So the premise doesn't hold.Comment

We're talking 20+ years ago. And that was what the tellers at a bank or S&L (can't remember which) had customers do with change they brought in. Maybe the teller was covering their behinds because they couldn't stop and check every roll.
Nowadays you're not doing anything with a bank without a fee unless you are a customer.Comment
