waffle coin explained ?

Can someone explain how a waffle coin is made and why they're mostly on quarters and dollars?

hey thanks! I watched the dvd on that site and it was interesting. apparently the mint cancels inferior coins by running them through a "waffle press" before re-melting them.

You are correct. Waffling is a way the mint will render coins 'useless'. I think they are very cool looking though.

I havent seen any waffled cents... perhaps they're not as picky with them.
