Good Morning: As I probably mentioned before I collected when I was a kid, and now in semi-retirement have decided to do some coin roll hunting. Long story short, I was going through my old collection and came across a roll of bicentennial pennies. My first thought is to tear it open and see what I've got, but then it's in the original wrapping. The wrapping says Bicentennial 1976. I can see the date on both enders, and they are both 1975. Curious, what would you do?
Excited but torn

The bi-centennial was in 1976, so I don't know why there aren't 1976 coins in that roll. However, bicentennial coins were minted in 75 and 76, so maybe that is why. Those denominations that are marked as 1776 - 1996 were minted in both years. Do you have a photo of the wrapper? Is it from the mint or a third party?Bob Piazza

I've never seen a mint wrapped bicentennial cent roll (they did them for Lincolns bicentennial later) but it's possible, they went nuts with bicentennial things, the quarters and halves and the 40% quarters, halves and dollars plus the regular ones and fancy boxes for them all.
If you bought the 1975 mint sets or proof sets they came with the 1776-1976 dated halves and quarters and no halves or quarters are dated 1975.
I think I would keep the roll sealed for now, there isn't that much to find in 1975 rolls anywayComment

Thanks Ed. I just responded to an email from Jon and sent him some pics. Someone on a different site pointed me to some of the same rolls on ebay for sale. The enders have some interesting marks in the middle of the numbers 9 & 7, someone said machine damage, perhaps. It's just odd how the indentations follow the curve of the numbers. If you would like to see them just email at scubalou2@comcast.net and I can show you the pics.
Thanks: Lou
P.S. the other odd thing is that the enders are both 1975.Comment

Did you notice that those do not look like 1976 coins??? The look like 1975??? The second coin pic looks like the date may have some Class 6 but it is hard to tell with the damage??? Wexlers does list 4 DDOs http://doubleddie.com/343501.html for 1975... VV has 2 listed http://varietyvista.com/01b%20LC%20D...DDO%201975.htm I did not check them out tho!!!Jim

Thanks, I did notice the enders were 1975, not sure what that means. I've got a couple dozen wheaties rolls that I rolled about 40 years ago. I've still got some new rolls to go through before I get to the old ones. I'll post if I think I find anything interesting.Comment

lol, didn't mean to cause so much drama. I found more rolls that I rolled up 40 years ago. I guess I can unwrap that one next week. In the meantime I started a new thread in varieties.

I'm hoping I just found a 1988 Lincoln with a 1989 reverse, anyone care to weigh in?Comment
