    Self Adhesive Coin Holders

The 2x2 self adhesive coin flips sold by Lighthouse claim to have an archival quality liner free of PVC and that is fine. I was curious about the adhesive used. Would it contain any chemicals that would attack the cent over time?

Excellent question, I'll be curious to hear what folks in the know say. I know there is so much that can affect coins as far as toning and darkening. I was not familiar with these but searched them using your description. Here is a link to some on eBay to check out. LINK (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...ive+coin+flips)

An email to the company should help answer the question!!!

I do have inquiries out and waiting for answers. I was just curious to find if anyone here knew for sure. They are certainly nice to work with, much better than the stapled version.

I had used them in the past and I never had any issues with them. I think the longest I had them in the 2X2 was 18 or 19 years until I decided to go into all flips and labels. I have never heard anything negative about them.

The only problem I see is reuse... If you reopen the holder the adhesive is no longer useable... Either tape or a new holder would be required!!!

Your are correct. But tape is never an option. Once the adhesive makes any kind of contact, opening self destructs the holder. I had no idea when I started this thread if this type of holder was popular or not. I assumed that they had obsoleted the stapled version as long as the adhesive is harmless. The adhesive does make an airtight seal and there are no staples to possibly scratch the coin. I was using the hard clear plastic 2x2 snap together holders but they are expensive and take up a lot of room.

Thanks for the follow up... I do not like the staples either... They are difficult to remove and even the stainless steel staples can corrode over time... I did use only the 2x2 cardboard for my Abes but have since been switching to the mylar 2x2... The draw back with the mylar is the coins protection... The coin edges are open to damage when stored with other coins... The field can be damage but is less likely unless the holders get bounced around!!!
