Just a question on a sold ebay auction 2016-D

I was just wondering, why did someone buy this for $13.00 on this ebay auction?

Only a dermatoglyphicist would know for sure.

Silver----that is too funny! Laughing. Maybe they are looking for someone they weren't able to on ancestrytree. Still laughing. Good one! (and am learning new words at the same time), though I know 'derma' and 'glyphics' but didn't know it was there together.

LOL... that does look like a fingerprint above the date... but the pic is so bad there's no way to study the print! And I noticed that 3 sellers got 2 of the coins, 2 for $13 and one for $12 - does that really mean they spent $26 and $24? Either way... what a RIP off!

So out of the 10 coin lot, total sales $130, 10% goes to the charity that's $13.00... doesn't seem much like a charity donation to me.

Waterspot, that is just a charity chosen from Ebay charities, to enhance a listing (more so). https://charity.ebay.com/charity/St....an-School/7764

And if you look down on that page ---"If the item sells, your listing and final value fees will be discounted by the same percentage that you donated. For example if you donate 25% to charity then you will get a 25% discount on your listing and final value fees."

Not like the seller is DOING such a good deed and one buys the coin JUST to be able to donate to the charity.
                Common'.
The coin is crap and the auction a gimmick.
I can post a whole bunch of obliterated coins then, and all I'd have to do is allow for a WHOPPING 10% to an ebay charity and get fees deducted as well? Whola!!!!

Anyway, I guess some people fall for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Viv, the 13$ and more pretty much comes back to the seller. Final value fees on a 0-50$ item in <other category> is 12%. The seller gets back 10% final value fee (because of listing it as a charity auction) The seller's loss--> 2% =26 cents. The seller's win on this crappy coin = 12.74$

Yah Viv. What it is --- auctions listed like this want to appeal to people's sentiments (as Watersport immediately 'noticed' that it's for charity --not picking on ya Watersport), but it shows that people may be drawn to something like that. However, here on ebay, the seller found a way to do that, and also relinquish having to pay final value fees. And also get rid of some bad coins while at it.
                      Wow.

I mean, it comes down to decency. But then, no one is making the buyer buy that; it's their decision.
                      Still.............

I agree Camelia, it is very misleading. I don't shop on eBay so I didn't notice the "ribbon" thing or even pay attention to the script below the listing about the charity. Since I don't pay much attention to that stuff... I'm better off to stay away from eBay! I would be an easy target!

Viv, I noticed since I've sold and currently have some items for sale on ebay (not coins at the moment, or yet). But I was wondering what the response would be for my question, and there it was ---about the charity I already knew about the fees (or no fees per say) about them and why people are mostly doing that for. Just wanted to know what people would notice about the listing.

To me, at least if they do sell something and applying some to a charity, at least sell something decent. Right?

Yep... based on your numbers the seller keeps $12.74 and gives the charity .26 - come on......

Haha Viv, look at the comments from a buyer, on that auction, at the bottom of page --- "last pennies needed for book" For real.... The only thing I can do is giggle-laugh.
