Now I'm getting confused and I am just drinking coffee LOL @Ed. I thought that all die clash marks are raised, am I badly mistaken?
Sort of confused LOL. The design elements from a clash will be incuse, the things that look raised are really the fields or boundaries of the fields.
I described it above, in a clash the dies hit and transfer to each other die. So in effect it's trying to strike the other die like a coin is struck. That means it tries to strike up (raise) the letters on the opposing die. Raised letters on a die make incuse letters on a coin.
Stuff you see as raised from a clash can be the boundary like where the obv field meets the bust, that section of field becomes raised on the rev die. Simply put, the clash image is reverse of normal, raised details are incuse and field areas are raised.Comment

Don't forget counter clashes http://www.maddieclashes.com/type-i-counterclash/ http://www.maddieclashes.com/type-ii-counter-clash/ However I do not think this item is a clash remnant??? It looks more like a die ding/gouge??? There does appear to be a clash remnant of the N but the edge of that is slightly east of the anomaly!!!Jim

Thanks Jim I'll take you up on that offer for overlays. I actually thought this was part of a clash at first because of the stain east of the bow tie going NNE. There are some perpendicular remnants of die polishing scratches across the the two raised areas onto the field. I don't have high hopes for this being anything other than die damage, but this one is above my pay grade to say for sure.
Here are some Full Obverse and closeups. I was able to get much clearer images. Hopefully they work for what you need.Attached Files- 1955p-2ndNeck_HighResFullObv.JPG (226.8 KB, 4 views)
