This morning I decided to take a break from customer rolls and search one of the many bricks I have stacked up. When I opened the box I spotted the obverse of a very shinny wheat penny. Thinking I had an original steel cent, I opened the roll only to find that not only was the coin plated, it was a 1958-D to boot. A search of the rest of roll did produce two Wheaties and a nice 1896 Indian Head though.
A fake and a find in a bank wrapped roll.

Fun finds. Science experiment on the 58. That IHC is nice, should grade xf40.All opinions expressed are not necessarily shared by willbrooks or his affiliates. Taking them may result in serious side effects. Results may vary. Offer not valid in New Jersey. -

Well Mark, that switch over from customer rolls to bank rolls had you all excited on those two finds! I bet seeing just the reverse of the plated 58D did have a moment of joy thinking it was a nice steelie! Your IHC find is very nice looking! You can still see Liberty! Congrats!Comment

Thanks. It's been quite awhile since I found an Indian Head in circulation.Well Mark, that switch over from customer rolls to bank rolls had you all excited on those two finds! You're welcome Mark! It's a fine looking IHC! I've given a lot of thought to bank wrapped rolls (Loomis, etc.) and customer rolls. It all depends on a few things... if the customer kept their Lincolns in a good environment (cool, dark, low moisture) then you have a great chance of finding a very nice Lincoln, or Variety. But... if the customer kept their Lincolns in a damp basement, dug them out of the car (car cup holder) or in once case the bank teller confirmed to me that the coins came out of a small dried up fish pond, then they are probably going to look bad. And, it probably matters where you live. I've had customer rolls that were so bad lately that I told the bank I don't want any more. Somebody was pulling out all of the wheats and nice looking Lincolns so I was getting the left overs!Comment

I run across the same problem now and then. I have had rolls of pennies that probably came out of a fountain. They were all white from the chlorine and stuck together. The their are the rolls filled with what I call "parking lot coins", the ones people pick up from the ground. Some are so bad I just throw them away because I know they will be rejected by the Coinstar machine when I cash in my rejects. You're welcome Mark! It's a fine looking IHC! Okay, so you have had some bad customer rolls too! It looks like the customer rolls you are getting now are good ones so you have a great chance of finding some really nice finds in them! I live in such a small town that I think the same person is the only person taking rolls to my bank - and they are horrible - so I'd rather have a Loomis roll!I run across the same problem now and then. If I was in that situation I would too. Most of the bank boxes I get here are from Brink's. I don't like Loomis rolls, they are too hard to open!!Okay, so you have had some bad customer rolls too! Funny that I am not the only one who has noticed this! The Loomis rolls are definitely harder to open than they used to be. The paper is rolled tighter and it's hard to get the tear started!Comment

Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!!
