I think it's a pretty penny, with warm glows of orange. Tho it has it's dings and all.

It is a rather pretty color, but unfortunately, it appears to have been previously cleaned. I think that's the color you are seeing.

you might have a mint mark variety
What is it that you see that makes you think it is a variety? I'm afraid I don't see anything that does.

bob, I put a thin coat of verdi-care on it, but I don't think it has been previously cleaned. It could have, I don't know 100%. Also, it has a lot more luster than the pictures taken; the pictures here look flat and matte. Couldn't get a better lighting position to show it as I see it.
As far as the mint mark, there are some chips and a gouge inside, that I can see.

I certainly can agree that viewing a photo here versus in hand can make a big difference. I can't see any 'luster' per se, and I see things like corrosion in the numbers of the date. Previously cleaned coins can be difficult to identify in some cases, so I will leave it as your call since you do have it in hand.

OK...I see what you are getting at. However, almost all of the S mint marks for the date have this anomaly on the bottom loop. The strength of that 'bulge' is proportional to the depth of the punching. It is not a repunching though, just the punch that was used.

Not sure if it's the right wording but I call those things a stringer or rib, it's part of the punch that shows if punched hard.

That coin looks like it might have been polished or erased, like the wheats I found as a kid and could not resist polishing up for my folder.

Notice how the dirt and debri is in tight to the devices and inside of them... Who ever cleaned it only did a have way cleaning... Maybe they wear testing cleaning methods

Yeppers, Jim--- like why didn't they just finish the job, and make it really pretty, with no dirt inside the letters and all?! But (laughing), it's ok with me. It still is preeutty! So, reckon would give some credit to whomever.
Sorry, haven't been around. Was in Virginia for a week of training, I.T. stuff. I may be gone again starting in June. Will see.

Hahaha Jim, for sure. It's like an obsession. For me---to find that true doubled die that I can see without a microscope. Yep, gotta keep working. Main thing though, to find work, in the first place. Tough times.
