    1966 DDR FS-801 Lincoln Cent.

This elusive rare variety (comparable to the 1982-P Sm Date Zinc DDR), with only a few select examples known, sold for over $3,000 in MS62BR in 2017......

How much do you coin experts predict a MS65RD-to-MS66RD (possible TOP POP) 1966 DDR FS-801 will go for......at auction/private sale?......$5-10k?

    Opinions?

What and who makes this comparable to the 1982 DDR? It would be more comparable to the 64P DDR-001 or the 1968D DDR-001. As always, demand will determine the final price for this at auction, but I would think it would not go for more than 5K. Not many have been reported as you note, but I don't think it is on many people's radar.

Comparable in terms of rarity, having only 5-ish or a handful of true specimens of each found....It's also comparable in terms of value....

But you're absolutely right, when this insanely rare variety becomes more popular it should appreciate drastically.

Last time I checked, no top listed PCGS LMC Variety Set collectors had either the FS-801 82 DDR or the 66 DDR in their collection......(and these 2 were the only 2 a lot didn't have)....

Hmmmm. PCGS has graded 3 of each variety. And the #1 set owned by well known variety expert and author Brian Allen - has both of those cents. In Fact, Brian owns the top pop MS 65 Red 1966 DDR, While Doug Wright owned the MS 62 brown 1966 DDR and was the one who bought it in 2017 but then retired his set which is still listed as #2 all time finest. Obviously you do not have to play the registry game to own the other coins. In fact, the value will be dictated by one collector who is missing both. And that Collector is Delroy Hansen. If he thinks its a great specimen, the top price for either will be dictated by him as he attempts an astonishing collection of EVERY us coin minted. For me, I am just trying like many here to get a specimen of each. Cherry picking it would be far more rewarding than paying thousands for either one.

Do you know Delroy Hansen? Tell him what we are talking about on here hypothetically is actually reality. How bad does he want to complete his set, and have the top pop in this chase piece? ;)

No, but you can read about his collecting here:

The newest addition to the collection is the 1849 G$1. Top pop 1/0 graded by PCGS, approx. 7 or 8 proofs are known.

I have a question - You stated the 66 FS801 DDR in 65 to 66 red does that indicated it is not slabbed yet??? If not slabbed yet I wouldn't think 5k??? I do not buy/sell coins nor do I have a collection!!!
