    3 ring slab binder review

Anybody ever used or seen these in person? Just wondering how durable the sleeves are.

Never used them and hope I never have the number of slabs that would dictate buying them.

I hear ya. I've always been more of a raw coin guy myself, but I am encapsulating many of the good ones myself and thus I suddenly have hundreds of them.

        At $20 +/- a piece, that's a lot of dough.

Used a similar "Eagle" brand 3 ring holders for years and well, I would never use them again. Compared to boxes, they take up about 5X the space. I used to store them in a closet on shelves. The pages are brittle and mine eventually cracked and split over time with use. Frankly, I would not get them unless you just need a couple.

That's exactly what I feared. Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna order the aluminum box, and hopefully I'll get over to my buddy's wood shop sometime to make a nice display case.

The only advantage I recall was they could hold anyones slab...well sorta, obviously the loose ones feel out. LOL.

I have my normal Lincoln cent collection in the slab pages like you have above and like Bob mentioned. It works well enough for that set since it doesn't change much, has a set number of coins (doesn't need rearrangement), and is limited to PCGS and NGC for my set. However, the pages have become brittle over time, and the plastic they use has warped a bit. Sometimes a page does crack. What I do like though that I can find any coin in my Wheat set, my Memorial set, or my Proof set very quickly as they each have their own binder and set location.

My variety coins I have in various different boxes with hand-written labels. I have NGC separate in their own boxes, the new ANACS holders in the large double row certified coin boxes, the old ANACS coins in the small double row and single row 2x2 boxes, and all the rest (PCGS, ICG, PCI, SEGS, etc) in PCGS boxes. I tried to leave a little bit of room in each of these boxes so I don't have to re-organize everytime I get a new certified variety. This is helpful to me because there is no set number of coins I'm going for on these. They just sporadically are found or purchased. I've attached a few photos below of my system.

Thanks, Dan. That's impressive. I just can't seem to settle on a good system. There are too many variables. I've reorganized a half dozen times probably and I'm still not satisfied. Probably never will be. Lol.

Found a few different options on the bay and one was just to give you an idea of what maybe to make in your buddies shop.

Good price for multiple PCGS (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-10-B...cAAOSwWH1daUof)
                    Aluminum storage box (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-St...s/264595892400)
Idea for something to make (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wooden-Stor...r/124043407763)

Thanks, Jon. I went with 2 of the aluminum boxes that hold 100 each. If I make something in the wood shop, it will be for displaying them.

Boxes are best but you need more boxes than you have coins so you can group your coins in a way that makes sense and you can find what you want without going through lots of boxes and have space to add without always needing to shift them around..

Too bad all TPGs didn't use the edge labels like Anacs used for a while, they do help and you can read it in their boxes.

I use a similar approach in my 2x2 binders. Leave open spaces for adding coins later. Edge labels, eh? Great idea. I'll have to figure how to make my own.

I probably can't speak to the post, since I don't have ANY holders at all to speak of. But in my humble opinion, just looking, why would anyone pay 50-60$ for a binder and then have to buy the pages too? Like ----binders, when I was in high-school even, regular binders. I guess you'd have to buy pages though, to fit the holders. Just like someone buying pages to hold their stamp collection of sort.
I however, would never spend 60$ for a binder. The coins are already in protective holders.
