    PCGS Crossover Grading

If PCGS reopens again, I plan on submitting these 4 NGC graded coins in order to get the collection exclusively PCGS for the slabbed items so they can be included in the Registry. I would hope for the best but I suspect I will not be happy with the results so I wanted to get your opinions. The photos I took pretty much duplicate what you see in hand. Please excuse the 2 Indians but my cent collection starts in 1900 rather than with the Lincolns.

    The NGC grades are:
    1900 PF65RB
    1909 PF65RB CAC
    1909 S Over Horizontal S MS63RB
    1999 S Close AM PF69RD Ultra Cameo

The numerical grades may be OK, but I don't think the first 2 will make RB and I don't think the last one is ultra cameo.

Thanks for your inputs as I execute this dubious plan.

Well, PCGS IS back open as of Tomorrow. Check their web page. Now as far as your coins. Its been my observation that NGC is a bit more generous with grading than PCGS. But in My opinion, you have got that already figured out. Good luck with you submission.

      Gorgeous coins.
(I think you're right about that proof not being ultra cameo.)

Those are really nice... I'm no grader but The 1st 3 shouldn't go more than 1 grade less if at all??? The 99S to me does not look ultra cameo??? Could be a cameo tho???

I appreciate all of your comments. A few decades ago I started to build a complete collection of cents from 1900 on in mint condition but in raw state. Sources at that time were only coin chops, coin shows and mail order. And I did not have the funds to buy the rarer pieces and the major varieties. Then a couple of years ago my interest in numismatics woke up and I started to complete the set, but with only certified coins. A few of the initial purchases were NGC but I quickly realized based on research and comparison that they seem to be more liberal than PCGS with their assignments and therefore somewhat overpriced. I started using the PCGS registry set "Lincoln Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1909-Present)" as my inventory list for a "Complete" collection. Then I thought it would be cool to enter the graded coins in as a registry set, but found the NGC coins were excluded. They is why I wanted to cross over these 4.

I could see the 1900 hitting MS66. Not sure if youll get the RB but I think its better than the MS65s shown on PCGS. Maybe the color is better in hand.

Well first, PCGS is now closed again. But in the meantime your observations and collecting sounded like me. I then settled on PCGS. But now I am cracking out older graded coins because the grading has loosened over the years. I am not in to the old green holder BS, I am talking any coin graded 15 years ago. I got 2 in there now but its going to be a while to find out if I was fool enough to think ownership is worth one grade. I never do cross overs. The reason being I do not like dirty coins and just about every cent I crack benefits in at least appearance with a acetone bath first. But that is just me. Good Luck with your submission.

It has been a while, but the crossover grades are back from PCGS:

                The NGC grades were:
                1900 PF65RB
                1909 PF65RB CAC
                1909 S Over Horizontal S MS63RB
                1999 S Close AM PF69RD Ultra Cameo

                The new PCGS grades are:
                1900 PF65BN
                1909 PF65RB
                1909 S Over Horizontal S MS64RB
                1999 S Close AM PF68 Cameo

We were correct that the first one would not make RB and the last one was not ultra cameo. I guess it was kinda of a break even deal but my goal was to make 100% of my TPG coins to be PCGS and now they are.

I think you did just fine and your goal was met.

                    I agree with WS Bob.
All crossed-over with one better upgrade (09 s/Hor s) that is probably more valuable than the downgraded one (the Pf68 Cameo).

(PCGS doesn't even have a value for a PF68 Cameo on this LINK . So does that mean you have the highest graded Cameo?)

They do have it valued. Refer to attached. I am OK with the outcome.

Thanks because I was looking in the wrong column!
And you definitely made out better, value-wise, with the grades they received.
