    Dealer Recommendation

I now need 6 more Lincolns for my collection based on the PCGS registry set that I selected to be my arbitrary definition of "complete set". Two of these, the 58 DDO and the 69-S DDO are unobtanium. The other 4 are possible in MS. High AU would be OK if the eye appeal is there. These are:

    1917 DDO
    1936 DDO Type 1
    1992 Close AM
    1992-D Close AM

Does anyone have a relationship with a dealer who may run across such coins that are relatively hard to find?

    Thanks,
    Hurst

Those are definitely tough ones to find.

Unfortunately, I can't think of a dealer but starting a want list on Great Collections, Heritage Auctions, or similar seems like a way to go for those.

No real Dealers I know other than L&C, for varities but they can get pricey. Just keep making the circuit and checking web sites. I did find this AU 58 1917 DDO on eBay.
      Good Luck!

        Bob,

I saw that one but the woody finish sorta masks the doubling on the obverse and the reverse has some nasty black spots. There is another one eBay, an AU55, but its eye appeal seems even worse than a 55 due to contact marks.

There is also a PCGS MS65+ RD at Pinnacle that I would consider, but it has a huge black stain of some kind on the cheek. Otherwise is is gorgeous. What do you think?

I love the woodgrain but the pictures aren’t the clearest. I bet the doubling shows great in hand or better pics. Im more turned off by the spots on the reverse and the price. If you’re considering a 65+ then money isn’t the issue for you. Lol. That price I would buy another Harley. Lol You guys and your bragging rights.

I probably would have picked it if not for the spots. It reduces the eye appeal. I believe that if it comes time to sell, eye appeal for the grade, even though most subjective and of less contribution to the grade than surface, strike and luster (according to PCGS) will turn off the prospective buyer before they even study the other factors. The same problem exists with the 65+ coin. Maybe that is why both have been on the market for so long.

Money is an issue for all of us. But nowadays when money in "safe" storage such as CD's are drawing almost no interest, if one has some sitting around it might as well sit in a nice Lincoln collection methinks.....

Im with you. If you have the options go for it. Higher priced varieties dont seem to be going down in price especially when there arent any to buy.

Nothing wrong with being choosy. And that is especially true for the 1917 DDO, which frankly, is routinely available . So just wait till that right one comes along.

Someone on here, I think Bob said, always go for the best one you can afford. If you get one just to have it, your going to buy a better one later and keep spending. So I been on that since I read it. I look for the best one I can afford and be done. Besides some hard to find RPMs for my set. Grabbed them soon as I found them and hoping to upgrade later if I can. No reason not to hold out and get the best one for your money. Soon as you buy the one that could be better, itll pop up after you bought the other one. Just keep waiting
