    1951-D FS-521

    1951-D with a D in the 5
Has anyone ever seen one in person? How many are known to exist? Do you have one? Do you even think its an RPM?
Dont be shy, what do you think?

To me its questionable but Ive never seen one besides pictures. Could it have been a die chip and destroy the date pretty quick, not lasting a long run, then the die replaced? Maybe
Its odd to say the least

This is the only one I have seen Jason. I didn't notice it on CC, VV or W. Larry

When I looked at the link Larry put up, a die chip was the first thing I thought. So nobody has it listed, I guess? Maybe they all thought the same thing?

Here's the best part: all three of the coins shown by pcgs in the link Larry posted ARE DIFFERENT DIES!!! What a freaking joke.

None of us ever listed it for the very reasons you guys have already determined. This is nothing but a chip. I am still waiting for the guy who wanted to bet me his house that it was a misplaced mint mark, to pay up. Strangely, he is nowhere to be found!

For $940, I'll keep an eye out for this die chip. Pretty sure the reason why the population is so low is everyone immediately says die chip, because, well, that's what it obviously is. Like obviously.

It's a bird! It's a plane! Aw nuts... It's merely two die scratches!

We would love to think that the people that verify, grade, and slab our coins are at least competent enough to know that a given "variety" comes from the same die, but here we are.

I might have run across it in all my wheat searches, but since it was never on my radar, probably passed it by as another 50's die chip. oh well.
