I have the opportunity to purchase a couple of coin sets, "Lincoln Cents Collection 1941 to 1974 Number Two" and "Lincoln Cents 1909 - 1940". The 1941 to 74 set is complete (no error or variety coins) and the 1909 to 1940 set is missing: 1909S VDB, 1909S, 1911S, 1914D, 1922 (No Mint Mark) 1924D, and 1931S. Where can I possibly find out a ballpark figure of what these are worth? Also, some of the coins are looking sad, since I figure they have been in these blue folders for ever. If I were to purchase them, should I take them out of the coin holders and store them separately or will that destroy their value?

I would have to think about the early set, but the 41-74 set should be $5 or less. I've seen that set on sale for $2.50 at coin shows with no buyers. The only coins of real value would be the 09VDB, 10S, 12S, 13S, 14S, 15S, and 22D...unless some of them are better than VG. If they are all goods....maybe $50-$70 for both sets. If the semi-keys are corroded, pitted, scratched, ag, or cleaned then I would say $30-$40. I would have to see the coins to give a better opinion. I would determine a value for those 7 coins, then add about $10 for the rest. -

Brad:
Thanks for the prompt reply. The person want $60 just for the 1909 to 1940 and all are at least good with one or two a little higher (in my opinion). None of them are in fine condition.
Now as far as keeping such coins in the cardboard collection folders. Is that a good idea or not?Comment
