What is a Type 2 Wide AM?

Type 2 or Type II on Ty-2 = Wide A M (commonly refered to as proof style reverse.)
Type 1 or Type I or Ty-1 = Close AM
I beleive this is the case on all dates exhibiting Wide and Close "AM"
It is NOT refering to two kinds of WIDE A M reverses.Last edited by Wheat Cents; 03-28-2008, 04:15 PM.Lincoln Cent Variety Enthusiast -

1998 and 2000 are common you can pick them up cheap. But you just stick to it and keep looking you'll probably find those two. eBay sellers are seller those two as pairs and you can pick up AUs for $10 bucks a pair.
Back when the 2000 first hit the street Global even got involved and certified lots of that date. I bought three 2000 beauties MS 65s for $15 bucks a piece and a 1998 Wide AM PCI MS66 beauty for $20 ( think it is in my albums )
You are correct . At this moment in time there are fewer 1999 than 1998 or 2000.
Rare? Some said the 2000s were rare... then the 1998s were rare... in 1996 the 1995 DDO was rare. New discoveries are always low in population in the beginning. I'd prefer reserving that term for a few more years down the line.
I have a a few 1998 and 2000s loose in 2x2 snaps which were found in change. They are circulated but photograph better on my cheesy microscope because a can get better focus if the coin is not slabbed. I'll post then in a bit.Last edited by Wheat Cents; 03-28-2008, 06:00 PM.Lincoln Cent Variety EnthusiastComment

Here are pics of the 1998 and 2000 plucked from our family's penny jar. She and I fill it ... I get around to looking through 'em... then she brings back to the bank. The cyle is endless.
Also a pic of that Global I spoke of. They got into the act early on and certified lots of the 2000s. That 2000 is beauty in its own right.
In my opinion , none of these are rare.Lincoln Cent Variety EnthusiastComment

I'd say that testimony in and of itself bears out fact that WIDE AMs are not rare. Certainly not as common as close AM counterparts , but with billions minted ... There are lots of 'em out there...Lincoln Cent Variety EnthusiastComment
