This is a link my husband sent to me and I though it would be okay to post here.

We are discussing the matter and how it would affect our small internet business.
We feel that large companies such as Amazon.com, who do not have a physical address and do not collect sales tax to redistribute to states in which they have sold merchandise, have an unfair advantage and are taking revenue away from the small businesses. We are required by state law to collect sales tax for transactions, or in our case, orders that originate in California.

These are our thoughts, and they are not intended to reflect on LCR or any other forum. We believe this is just information one can use to help learn about what is proposed.

Usually you pay taxes in the state that your selling in. Just like any buiness, taxes have to be paid. Might not like to pay it but you wont have much choice. This petition wont even put a dent in any decision that is made. Government does what they want and thats it.

I cannot see this passing. It would be infinitely complicated to sellers to determine the sales tax anywhere in the country. The economy is a mess and such a law would negatively impacted the economy further.

Jean's link, "Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement," seems like a better alternative.

That said, Jason may be right and the government can do as it pleases...

My husband, Bob, (he has been a software engineer for several companies the past twenty plus years), says that companies would need new software to comply with a new internet sales tax. This could be much too complicated and prohibitively expensive for small businesses. There are a few states without sales tax, so are they going to voluntarily accept what could be construed as a 'federal sales tax'... ?

Like some have said... the federal government will do what it wants to do.
I am not certain that ebay is a good way for us to be involved with this if we want to do so. Big companies have an agenda most of us do not understand, and many of us understandably do not trust.

I have no problem with big companies as they drive the economy. I do have a problem with big government as they are nothing but oppressive.

As a wise man named Thomas Jefferson said "A government big enough to give you everything you need is big enough to take everything you have."
