    '86- d

I've been wanting to ask this for a long time. What is the deal with '86D's? Just recently someone stated on this site that "they" are paying $30 for a BU roll. I am in the dark. Anyone have a candle?

They are purchasing a roll of Brilliant Uncirculated that someone somewhere has stached so that they could sell a one dollar roll of pennies for thirty... Darn good interest... I hope I was able to light my candle... LOL!!!

That was probably me. BU rolls of 1986-D cents are relatively scarce as they were neglected by collectors. I suggest you purchase the monthly suppliment of CDN so you can get an idea of the BU roll valuations. The the 86-D the prices are listed as BID $25 ASK $27.

A simple ebay search asserts my claim:

The whole decade was neglected with certain years and MMs (like the '86D) more so than others. Very good advice for anyone reading this thread - thanks Thad.

            My pleasure Jason.

A lot of searchers are so busy looking for errors and varieties they forget about setting aside BU coins. I put together a complete gem roll set of Zincolns while searching. Every coin is at least MS-64/65 in every single roll. Everytime I'd find a nice coin, I'd toss out a lesser one from the roll. It took a few years to do this, but was worth the effort.

Also, folks need to keep in mind that the ultra gem grade Memorials can prove to be far more valuable than a minor variety in a lower grade. Some MS-67/68 Memorial cents can be worth thousands of dollars.
