Hi All.

Need a lesson... Can someone please tell me what these acronyms stand for and the differences between them..?

EDS - MDS - LDS - VEDS

I know they have something to do with die markers, but that's about where my knowledge of the subject ends.

EDS - Early Die State
MDS - Mid Die State
LDS - Late Die Dtate
VEDS - Very Early Die State

We should also add VLDS - very late die state to the mix as well.

Actually, die markers are more concerned with die stages that die states. So, the explanation of a die state is; " the age of the obverse and reverse die when it struck the coin". Remember that the dies (obverse and reverse) may not be of the same age (state).

A die stage is concerning die markers and many die stages can and will be in the same die state. Example; you may have Stage "A" and Stage "B" in EDS, while Stage C, D and E may be in MDS. What it amounts to is that when a obvious die marker appears or disappears on a particular die (obverse or reverse) that die will move into a different stage.

Interesting and potentially confusing if not fully understood. I could see how important it might be to understand the use of these terms in order to avoid misunderstandings and incorrect attributions.

Just depending how its put. EDS MDS LDS Thats what the letters are
