    How do the letters get scattered as they are here? I can't imagine that they were engraved like that and I don't understand how die abrasion might be so uneven or that it would move the devices that much.

    I don't know what you mean by 'scattered'. This looks like a normal 1973 to me. Die wear, grease, die deterioration, abrasion, MD and design, can all affect how the devices look, but I don't see to much of this on your pics.

      I'm referring to the uneven spacing between the letters. Moreso than usual as I recollect although deviation seems to be common in '73's.

        I would attribute that to die deterioration.
